A Message from Dr. Cravotta

Hello Middle School parent(s) and/or guardian(s)!

Spring Break is almost upon us and our students continue to work hard in their classes.    We also continue to review and reinforce behavior expectations with students.  Did you know that ROAR is the acronym we use for our behavior expectations here?  I would encourage you to ask your student what that acronym stands for.  You can also quiz them on three of our main ROAR expectations in the hallway: use school appropriate language and volume, keep hands and bodies to ourselves, and pick up trash.  Whether you are traveling or staying here in Michigan I wish you a safe break.  We look forward to seeing all of our students back with us on April 7th!

Drop-off:

Clubs

We currently have an Origami Club and a Chess Club running after-school!  Details can be found on our announcements page, which are also shared by video every Monday and Thursday during our Seminar time.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found has many items that have been there for weeks or months.  These items will be donated Friday, March 21, 2025 at the end of the day, if they are not claimed.

STUDENT MATERIAL DROP OFF

One of our goals at DeWitt Middle School is to help students to become more independent and accountable. A major part of that is helping students to be ready to learn with all materials for school and extracurricular activities. While we understand that there may be an occasional need to drop off a forgotten homework paper, or lunch, we are hoping we can work together to greatly reduce or eliminate other items being dropped off.

Deliveries of special meals, water bottles, treats, sports apparel or equipment and other items are becoming more and more frequent and causing a disruption to instructional time, as well as the responsibilities of office staff. In terms of homework, books, Chromebooks, etc, we are encouraging students to become more independent and accountable and to come to school prepared, or recognize natural consequences when they are not. Your help in reducing the number of items being dropped off is greatly appreciated.

Half Days

Below are the date for half days for the 2024-2025 school year. On half days, the Middle School will dismiss students at 10:52 a.m.

Requirements for Seminar Olympics Participation

Middle School Students and Adults:

As we continue to support our students’ growth this spring, we believe that part of this is setting fair expectations and supporting students to meet those expectations.  At the end of the year, we have our Seminar Olympics planned as a fun celebration during the last few days of school.  To help all of our students, we have developed academic and behavior standards that students need to meet in order to participate in Seminar Olympics:

Our goal is for all of our students to participate in our Seminar Olympics event.  As a way to further support students to reach the academic goal, a grades report will be run at the middle of the trimester (Friday, April 18th).  Students who are not meeting the criteria will be able to work with a teacher to set a specific goal of improvement, which would allow them to participate.  Individual needs will also be taken into consideration when determining academic or behavior eligibility. We look forward to partnering with you to help our students be successful during this last trimester!

If you have any questions please contact Mr. Cravotta or Mr. Garrod.

Assistance Programs

The Old Newsboys Association helps our community by providing school-age children with either shoes or boots. If your child needs new shoes or boots and the purchase of them would be a financial burden, please fill out this form indicating your interest in this program and we will reach out for additional enrollment information. Once the sign-up process is complete, Old Newsboys Association will send you a voucher for either shoes or boots. You may include all school age children on one family request, even if they attend different schools. Please do not send in duplicate requests if you included your child on another form.  (If you are unable to fill out the digital form, please contact us for further assistance.)

The Weekend Survival Kit Backpack Program will continue to be provided at Dewitt Middle School this year.  Weekend Survival Kits contain a little over two days’ worth of food. Typical food items include mac & cheese, granola bars, canned vegetables, peanut butter, crackers, oatmeal, soup, and SpaghettiOs / Ravioli. There is no cost to you to participate in this program.  There are NO eligibility requirements to participate in this program this year. All students/families can access this program if they would like to! To enroll in this program, please fill out this form indicating your interest. Typically, food kits would be sent home from school with your student on Fridays.

If you have any questions regarding the programs above or are in need of any other resources for assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Hunt or Mrs. Nash.
