Welcome to the DeWitt Middle School athletic page for Boys Basketball!

Tryouts for the 2023 season will begin in late October.  Specific dates will be communicated once finalized.  At that time, you'll find the complete practice and game schedule updated below.  Practice times can change from time to time.  Coaches will communicate those changes to you.  Please feel free to email coaches with any tryout questions you may have.

As always, student's must have a current MHSAA physical form on file with our Middle School Office to be eligible for tryouts.  The form must be dated 4/15/23 or after.

7th Grade Boys' Basketball Tryouts

Tryouts normally start mid/late October.  All athletes must have a current physical form on file in the office, and athletes must be passing all classes in order to try out. Our $160 athletic fee must be paid prior to the first competition.

Game Times

This year all teams in our league, including DeWitt, are playing both an "A" team and a "B" team. "B" teams will always play first starting at 4:30pm - Both home and away. This has been the practice at DeWitt and for the teams in our league for some time. In middle school basketball we play 8 minute quarters. You can generally depend on games lasting approximately one hour and 15 minutes with 15 minutes between the end of game one and the beginning of game two.

Transportation Times

Bus departure times can be found on the schedules.  Coaches will also communicate with the team as to upcoming games and departure times.  

Fees

The DeWitt Board of Education sets fees annually for student participation pricing. Sports participation fees (Pay to Play):

High School fee $250/Year ($550 Family Limit)

Middle School fee $160/Year ($320 Family Limit)

The limit for families with both high school and middle school athletes is $550.

Sports Participation

Fee are  due before the first competition.  Sports Participation Fees will be waived for families that qualify for free/reduced lunch through Food Services. Please reach out to  Athletic Director @ dodsonr@dewittschools.net if you have qualified through Food Services.

Physical

Students must have a valid, up to date physical on file in the Middle school office before they can tryout, practice, or compete.   All physicals must be dated April 15th of the current year or later. A completed copy of the physical can be turned in at the middle school office or emailed as a pdf to the athletic director at dodsonr@dewittschools.net

Eligibility

Student eligibility requirements are set by the DeWitt Board of Education in consultation with the Michigan High School Athletic Association. At DeWitt Middle School, the athletic director pulls eligibility reports by noon on Friday.  Any student that is failing any class is deemed not eligible for the full following week. Student's eligibility will be re-determined the following Friday for the following weeks competition.

Please take time to read and understand our athletic code of conduct. This document covers the rules and expectations of our athletes on top of the student code of conduct. The best place for our student athletes to start his or her season is with a strong understanding of the high expectations we have of them.
